Alpha

In our Alpha for Schools program, we invite over 120 young leaders and school chaplains to a conference three times a year to participate in a training that allows them to deliver a 9-week program in their schools focusing on understanding the Bible through small group exercises and critical thinking.

Each year, nearly 5,000 students in 40 schools benefit from this program, and Bibles are given out to schools that particularly struggle with providing for their own small groups. Donations are always welcome to ensure that Bibles are given out to students who are unable to afford one.

I met the JENGA team when I was a student in one of the local schools. I was a Christian but I knew very little about God. After hearing about the Alpha programme running in the Student Union from my fellow students, I decided to join. From the first day, I enjoyed learning about stories from the Bible and reading the Alpha books and loved that I was free to express my ideas and questions.

The team leaders read stories and provided us with Bibles which we could read to confirm the scriptures and Bible stories which has enabled me to learn more about the word of God as well as how to conduct the Alpha programme. I became a leader of the course and I attended the training conferences. Truly my life has not remained the same. It has changed my understanding about God for the better and I will continue spreading Alpha programmes everywhere I go because it has become part of my life. Many non-Christians have joined the Alpha programme in our school and students have learnt the Word of God, how to live as disciples of Jesus and this has opened the eyes of many.

I’m also a Sunday school teacher at my church and I have been able to use the training to share with the children about Jesus. My pastor is also very thankful for the course because it has transformed lots of people’s lives.
