Emergency Relief Work

Providing safety net services in a nation where there are none.

In all of our work, JENGA aims to be strategic and proactive, to do all we can to get ahead of the problem of poverty. However, in the unpredictable world we live in, it’s not always possible to plan and prepare for everything.

Many times, JENGA has been called upon to quickly provide emergency medical and disaster relief services. These requests can come through the local government, partners, or even direct requests from our communities and churches. The needs are commonly emergency surgeries, ambulance transportation, food shortages, or even rebuilding homes destroyed or damaged by floods.

Flood Relief

As a result of unprecedented massive flash floods which swept through Mbale and its surrounding communities in June, hundreds were left with water damage, destroyed houses and crops. Many had personal belongings and even livestock swept away. Some of our friends were sadly affected and so JENGA distributed essential food and other items critically needed to families who had lost everything. Mattresses, blankets, pots, pans and other vital household items were given and many houses were built to replace those either swept away or damaged beyond repair.

After these awful events, many had understandably lost hope and so our team provided counselling for those in our networks who had been affected. JENGA reached out with both physical aid as well as offering psychological support has helped restore people’s hope. Both the friends we have helped and the local government have appreciated the work JENGA has done.
