Discipleship

Working with a network of partner churches, trained 1,000 church leaders in 11 districts.

Working through an existing network of trusted churches, JENGA is reaching out to both community leaders and community members to support them in their faith. Discipling, often understood as a form of spiritual mentorship, involves providing support, encouragement, and partnership while learning to navigate the different steps of the spiritual walk through life with God.

By providing Bibles and training materials to help people learn, and conferences to train trainers, JENGA is enabling the local church and helping people to grow their faith in both depth and maturity.

George’s Story

George is a faithful local pastor. However, for many years he had been leading his church without discipleship support and little theological training. This meant that he struggled to prepare sermons, teach and lead the Church. He shared that, “I was so pleased to hear about the Alpha training as I was desperately in need of help”. Through this course, he was given a new Kiswahili Bible, where he had been using a very old and tattered Bible before and he received a basic knowledge of the Bible and Christian ministry. George began using the teachings straight away, ensuring that his congregation were able to understand the true lessons of the Bible. His church membership grew from 20 to over 80 people and it grew unity between different churches within the district.

George later became a part of JENGA’s Leaders Discipleship programme, gaining more knowledge on crucial issues of ministry such as speaking in tongues and women’s involvement in church leadership. He also learnt about the value of discipleship in church, how to pray, lead people to Christ, and he even received a plan of a lesson series that he used to teach in his church. George shared that, “I used to run the church alone, but now I have learned to raise up a team of leaders and we work together. We have received more Bibles through discipleship program which has been greatly appreciated and JENGA has also supported me with food and hospital bills when times have been hard. This support has been really appreciated!”
