High on the slopes of Mt Elgon, at 2,000 metres above sea level, JENGA is growing a forest that will still be standing long after we are gone.
Our tree-planting programme on Wanale Ridge is unlike most reforestation projects. Rather than fast-growing species like eucalyptus, we focus on native hardwoods that develop slowly, root deeply, and deliver lasting value to the communities that tend them.
JENGA’s Tree-Planting Programme is deeply connected to our Zukuka Bora Coffee initiative By linking tree planting with coffee farming, we create a virtuous cycle: healthy trees support premium coffee, and premium coffee gives communities a reason to protect and maintain their trees.
Trees are a long-term investment — in livelihoods, in landscapes, and in the future. As our programme expands across Mt Elgon, we will create a legacy of forest cover and income opportunity that will benefit communities in this region for decades to come.
We have planted 850,000 trees to date.
